Welding Technology
Instructor: Greg Hoogenes and Joel McLeod

Students will learn metal working skills while using equipment such as the MIG welder, plasma arc cutter and metal bandsaw to fabricate their project in the welding shop. At the end of the program the students will take home their completed projects.

Construction Technology
Instructor: Steve Faber

Students will learn about the design-build process while using equipment such as AutoCAD software in the drafting room and the mitre saw, drill press and band saw in the woodworking shop while constructing their project. At the end of the program the students will take home their completed projects.

Students will learn simple hands-on techniques and identify trends in the hairstyling and aesthetics industry using appropriate materials and equipment. Students will leave with a manicured look and a small goody bag of course related products.

Culinary Arts

Students will learn about food preparation, cooking and presentation while working in a fully equipped restaurant kitchen environment. After working up an appetite, students will get to sample their creations.

Students will learn the skills needed to operate a sewing machine and be shown some basic techniques used to repair clothing. At the end of the workshop students will leave with a completed project they have made.

Manufacturing Technology
Instructor: Rob Collings

Students will learn about machining and welding processes while using equipment such as the metal lathe, CNC lathe and mill, drill press and metal band saw,  as well as while manufacturing their project. At the end of the program the students will take home their completed projects.

Robotics Programming
Instructors: D&D AUTOMATION

Students will learn basic programming fundamentals. After the basics are learned a mini challenge will be presented. Each participant will have the opportunity to create their own robot program. Time will be given to test and refine the robot program before competing in the challenge. This course will use LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Educational EV3 kit.

  • Students will be working in fully equipped technical areas. Please ensure they are dressed appropriately (no shorts, skirts, baggy clothing, or open toed shoes).
  • Please pack a brown bag lunch for your child each day (non-refrigerated). FunTECH and Northwestern SS are NOT peanut free zones.
  • November 25, 2017: FunTECH Schedule:
    • Morning Classes (run 9am until noon): Registration opens at 8:00am, please arrive no later than 8:45am to register.
    • Lunch in Cafeteria: 12:00pm-12:45pm (full day students to bring their own brown bag lunches)
    • Afternoon Classes (run 12:45-3:45pm): If registering for afternoon session only, please arrive no later than 12:30pm to register
  • All classes will start with a thorough safety lesson. We stress SAFETY FIRST!
  • All classes are taught by qualified instructors but volunteer helpers are always welcome. If you would like to help out in a classroom, please include this information in the comment box on your registration form.
  • We take photos during the FunTECH program to add to our online photo gallery and to use in future promotional materials. Local media may also be onsite during FunTECH taking pictures for publication. If you do not want your child to be included in any photos that will be published either through TTG or the Media, please let us know when you register.
  • Cancellations/Refunds: A refund of 85% will be provided if a registrant withdraws within a minimum of 5 business days prior to the FunTECH camp date. Following this, fees are non-refundable.
