About the Course

This is an Introductory Gas Metal Arc (MIG) Welding Course for trainees with little or no MIG welding experience.  

This 20-hour introductory course involves stand-up theory, combined with hands-on practical exposure to MIG welding techniques.  

CURRICULUM:  

CLASS #1

SAFETY OF WELDING  

  • Proper helmet, gloves, boots, pants, shirt, closed too light of arc, skin burn
  • Eye protection, glasses, flash and treatment
  • Lung protection. no welding on painted steel lead, mercury zinc chromate paint
  • Welding galvanized steel, milk treatment  
  • Shock protection, no welding in water, no wet gloves
  • Fire safety, rags, paint cans, sawdust fire or explosion  
  • Gas bottle, construction, valve brass, seat regulator, open bottle slow, set flow 20. Cu. Ft. Hr.  
  • Handle bottle safety, chain up, move only with regulator off and shipping cap on
  • Move with bottle cart or by hard, shipping cap on
  • Cap comes off only when restrained  

WELD MACHINE  

  • Basic operation, wire feeder, ground clamp, trigger on whip, roll of wire, wire break
  • Voltage control (heat)
  • Wire speed control, how to set
  • Function whips contact tips, gas nozzle.
  • Cleaning tips and nozzle cup, replace tip, liner
  • Clip wire stick out, pliers  
  • Functioning of shielding gas, how it works and why it is used  
  • Air movement and porosity, higher gas pressure

PRACTICAL  

  •   Review MIG Welding techniques

CLASS #2:  

PRACTICAL WELDING  

  • Proper gun orientation
  • Run beads on flat plate
  • Fillet welds on tee joints and lap joints in flat and horizontal position  

CLASS #3:  

PRACTICAL WELDING  

• Fillet welds on tee joints and lap joints in vertical down (and some overhead, if time allows)  

CLASS #4:  

PRACTICAL WELDING

  • Multi pass flat, horizontal, vertical down

CLASS #5:  

PRACTICAL WELDING  

  • Continued practice/refinement of all MIG welding techniques  
  • Skills Assessment: At conclusion of this course a practical test will be administered for verification of successful basic skills upgrade. This is NOT a certification.

Due to limited availability, registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. To secure your spot in the course, you must register online via the form below and pay your fee once invoiced.

Start and and dates may change if any cancellations occur due weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Registration Process

  1. Fill out and submit the online application form below.  
  2. Once invoiced, provide Full Payment to secure your spot.  

Payment (Once you receive an invoice)

  • Option #1: Interac email-transfer: MANDATORY: Include your full name and email address in "Comment" field.  
  • Option #2: Certified Cheque or Money Order (payable to Technical Training Group).

An administrative fee of 15% is charged for withdrawals. A refund of 85% will be given if a registrant withdraws within a minimum of 5 business days prior to the first day of class. Following this, fees are non-refundable.

Acceptance Notification

If there are spaces in the course still available, an invoice will be issued to you for course fee. Once this fee has been paid (this must be paid within 3 business days to secure your spot) an email verifying confirmation of your spot in the course and a receipt for payment will be sent.
