Calling All Parents!
Want your child to have some fun, learn about technology, use real tools and build cool projects? Enroll them in our technology and skilled trades awareness workshops at our one-day FunTECH Camp in November!
FunTECH Camp is all about giving youth, ages 7-14, an opportunity to explore their interest and talents in technology and trades. Hands-on workshops allow them to discover different career possibilities in a fun, safe and affordable way! With more than 8 workshops available, there are lots of exciting options for every child to choose from.
This could be the spark that captures their excitement for a lifetime!
Date: TBC November 2025
Duration: 9am-4pm (AM workshop 9am-noon, PM workshop 12:45-3:45pm)
Workshops: Junior & Senior Workshops available
Location: Stratford District Secondary School, 428 Forman Ave., Stratford, ON
Fee: $30.00 half day or $60.00 full day (per child)
Kids can register for the full day and experience two 3-hour workshops or attend for a half day (morning or afternoon) and participate in one 3-hour workshop. At the end of each workshop, each student walks away with a project or product they have built or prepared themselves!
FunTECH Camp workshops are taught by Stratford District Secondary School Tech Teachers, with the help of over 45 Technical Students and Community Volunteers.

We do our best to accommodate workshop choices, however if the FunTECH workshop you have selected is FULL, we will place your child in the workshop selected as their alternate choice. If this is also full, we will contact you to discuss the options still available.

Culinary Arts
Instructor: Dean Elieff
Students will learn about food preparation, cooking and presentation while working in a fully equipped restaurant kitchen environment. After working up an appetite, students will get to sample their creations.

Manufacturing Technology
Instructor: Trevor Riehl
Students will learn about machining and welding processes while using equipment such as the metal lathe, CNC lathe and mill, drill press and metal band saw, while manufacturing their project. At the end of the program the students will take home their completed projects.

Students will learn simple hands-on techniques and identify trends in the hairstyling and aesthetics industry using appropriate materials and equipment. Students will leave with a manicured look and a small goody bag of course related products.

Horticulture/Green Industries – NEW! Instructor: Christine Ritsma
Honey bees are an important part of our ecosystem and this workshop explores the many issues confronting our pollinator friends such as habitat, disease, and pests. While working in the greenhouse, students will construct and take home a bee house. Students will also have the chance to sample four different types of honey.

Students will learn about the design-build process while using equipment such as AutoCAD software in the drafting room and the mitre saw, drill press and band saw in the woodworking shop while constructing their project. At the end of the program the students will take home their completed projects.

Welding Technology
Instructor: Greg Hoogenes and Joel McLeod
Students will learn metal working skills while using equipment such as the MIG welder, plasma arc cutter and metal bandsaw to fabricate their project in the welding shop. At the end of the program the students will take home their completed projects.

Students will learn the skills needed to operate a sewing machine and be shown some basic techniques used to repair clothing. At the end of the workshop students will leave with a completed project they have made.

Robotics Programming
Instructors: Jason Carter, Carter Automation
Students will learn basic programming fundamentals. After the basics are covered students will get to work at solving missions from First Lego League’s 2018 Into Orbit challenge board. Each participant will have the opportunity to design and build their own robot using a LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Educational EV3 kit. Students will be given time to test and debug their robot code before competing in the challenge.
