About the Course
This is an Introductory Shielded Metal Arc Welding Course for trainees with little or no Stick Welding experience.
This 20-hour introductory course involves stand-up theory, combined with hands-on practical exposure to Stick welding techniques.
This welding course is based on (5) 4-hour training sessions that run in August/Sept in the evenings from 6pm-10pm. Min class size 6 and max class size 10.
CURRICULUM:
CLASS #1:
REVIEW SAFETY OF WELDING
- Proper helmet, gloves, boots, pants, shirt, closed to light of arc, skin burn
- Eye protection, glasses, flash and treatment
- Lung protection. no welding on painted steel, lead, mercury zinc chromate paint
- Welding galvanized steel, milk treatment
- Shock protection, no welding in water, no wet gloves
- Fire safety, rags, paint cans, sawdust fire or explosion
WELD MACHINE
- Basic operation of the machine, whip and ground clamp
- Amperage control (heat)
- Discuss porosity and welding defects
PRACTICAL
- Review Stick welding techniques
- Cleaning of welds and why this is required
CLASS #2:
PRACTICAL WELDING
- Stick Welding stringer beads on flat and horizontal plate
CLASS #3
PRACTICAL WELDING
- Stick Welding flat and horizontal overlap
- Stick Welding flat t-joints
CLASS #4:
PRACTICAL WELDING
- Stick Welding horizontal T-joints
- Stick welding vertical down T-joints
CLASS #5:
PRACTICAL WELDING
- Stick welding vertical down T-joints
- Skills Assessment: At conclusion of this course a practical test will be administered for verification of successful basic skills upgrade. This is NOT a certification.

Registration
Due to limited availability, registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. To secure your spot in the course, you must register online via the form below and pay your fee once invoiced.

Dates: August 27, 29, Sept. 3,5 and 10 from 6pm-10pm.
Start and end dates may change if any cancellations occur due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Registration Process
- Fill out and submit the online application form below.
- Once invoiced, provide Full Payment to secure your spot.
Payment (Once you receive an invoice)
- Option #1: Interac email-transfer: MANDATORY: Include your full name and email address in "Comment" field.
- Option #2: Certified Cheque or Money Order (payable to Technical Training Group).
An administrative fee of 15% is charged for withdrawals. A refund of 85% will be given if a registrant withdraws within a minimum of 5 business days prior to the first day of class. Following this, fees are non-refundable.

Acceptance Notification
If there are spaces in the course still available, an invoice will be issued to you for course fee. Once this fee has been paid (this must be paid within 3 business days to secure your spot) an email verifying confirmation of your spot in the course and a receipt for payment will be sent.
